Data Scientist in Petroleum Engineering

Aramco Research Center Moscow is offering great job opportunities for R&D data scientists specialized in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning focused on geology and geoscience domains. The position does not separate the roles of research scientist and data scientist and requires to be very flexible and innovative to think and work outside the box. It will focus on translating frontier data analytics and machine learning techniques to R&D ideas and prototypes to be further deployed to industrial applications. This will also require from the candidate to be able to grasp end to end industrial data processing and analytics implementation for successful technology development to tackle business problems. Key functions and responsibilities: Develop and improve AI-based models using Python for optimization tasks in geosteering, utilizing a variety of machine learning and predictive analytics tools to enhance drilling efficiency and decision-making. Conduct innovative research to explore and implement state-of-the-art machine learning techniques for addressing complex challenges in geoscience and petroleum engineering, aiming to optimize operational outcomes. Create, manage, and utilize diverse datasets, incorporating multidimensional tabular and time-series data, to train and validate machine learning models tailored to geoscience applications. Collaborate with stakeholders to clearly define project objectives and requirements, ensuring a thorough understanding of geoscience and petroleum engineering challenges. Prepare and deliver comprehensive presentations and reports on the computational experiment outcomes, offering insights and interpretations of the AI models' predictions and their implications for geosteering and optimization strategies. Produce detailed documentation, including research reports, application guidelines, and user manuals, to support the application and understanding of the AI solutions developed. Key technical skills and competencies: A strong educational background with an MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Geosciences, Petroleum Engineering, or related fields, focusing on machine learning and AI. Demonstrable experience in prototyping and developing machine learning models with Python, along with a deep understanding of relevant data science and AI libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn). Proficient in employing machine learning for solving classification, regression, and clustering problems, ideally with applications in geoscience and petroleum engineering. Solid programming skills in Python, with a good grasp of data structures and practical experience in object-oriented programming. Experience with Linux, git, and GitLab CI/CD for version control and continuous integration/deployment. Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for this role.
